I started Premier Smiles Dentistry in 2005 with a mission to provide my patients with healthy teeth and gums. The combination of advanced education and state-of-the-art equipment along with using select dental materials, allows us to offer you and your family a very high level of care that is both comfortable and affordable.

Sedation Dentistry

Dental anxiety is far more common than you might think. Experts estimate that up to 40 million Americans aren’t getting the dental care they need because fear of the dentist is keeping them from making their regularly scheduled appointments.

At Premier Smiles Dentistry in Cypress, CA, we think this is an unfortunate situation, and we want to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

Sedation dentistry is a smart option that can turn anxiety into confidence. When you don’t have to worry about uncomfortable sensations and scary sounds, you can relax and enjoy your visits at our inviting office. Our team is full of friendly faces, and every one of us is eager to welcome you and help you have a fantastic experience.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is the use of different types of medication to reduce anxiety and dull sensation. From nitrous oxide gas all the way to IV sedation, we can accommodate any level of dental anxiety to turn you into a believer.

Even with sedation, you will typically be awake and alert and able to answer questions and converse with Dr. Devani and our team – although it’s not unheard of for patients to become so comfortable that they doze off during their treatment! The medication produces a calming effect and often patients report that they can’t remember much of their procedure later.

Different levels of sedation are appropriate for different levels of anxiety and different procedures, and Dr. Devani can help guide you to find the type of sedation that is right for you.

Nitrous Oxide

You might know nitrous oxide by its more famous name – laughing gas! This name was inspired by the euphoric sensation that people sometimes feel while they are inhaling the gas.

Nitrous oxide is actually a mix of the gas with oxygen, and we are able to adjust your dosage quickly and easily so that we can make sure you get exactly the amount of gas you need. The effects wear off almost immediately; you can drive yourself home after your appointment with no worries about impairment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

If you need something stronger, we can discuss oral sedation dentistry and whether that might be the right choice for you. With this type of sedation, we provide you with a prescription medication that you take before your appointment so that you’re feeling calm and relaxed by the time your procedure starts.

If you choose oral conscious sedation, you’ll need a friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment.

IV Sedation

In some cases, dental anxiety is so severe that it’s actually a phobia – odontophobia. Does this sound like you?

We can help.

We have the option to bring in an anesthesiologist to provide IV sedation right here in our office so that you can sleep through your procedure completely free from all worries. As with oral sedation, you will need someone to escort you to and from your appointment.

Please let us know in advance if you’d like to discuss this option so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
