Crowns & Bridges

Are you struggling with damaged or missing teeth? A tooth that is fractured or decayed can cause a great deal of pain and make it difficult to chew. A missing tooth creates unappealing gaps in your smile that can make you feel self-conscious.

At Premier Smiles Dentistry, we don’t think you should have to put up with these problems. We offer simple fixes, including crowns and bridges, that will cover up and replace your damaged or missing teeth so that you can have the attractive smile you want and deserve.

What Is a Crown?

A crown is a tooth-shaped cover that can be made of different materials, including porcelain, different metals, or a combination of the two. The cover is placed over the top of your broken or damaged tooth to conceal it, protect it, and restore function.

We can use different types of crowns to solve different problems. Dr. Devani will review your concerns and your goals with you to determine the right kind of crown for your needs. For instance, if we are repairing one of your front teeth, the right choice will probably be a crown made of porcelain since it will look natural and blend in well with your other teeth. If we’re repairing one of the teeth in the back that requires extra strength and support for chewing, therefore, a metal filling might be the best choice.

What Is a Bridge?

A bridge is an appliance that fills in the missing tooth with one or more artificial teeth (called pontics) held in place by two crowns, which are fitted over the adjacent teeth. As with crowns, different materials are available and Dr. Devani will discuss your options to select the type of material that is right for you.

If you need to replace several teeth, another option that we can explore is a combination of dental implants and a bridge. In this case, the crowns are fitted over implants surgically placed in the gum with the pontic(s) suspended between them. This allows for a more permanent repair and combines the benefits of dental implants with the lower cost of a bridge – especially effective when you are replacing multiple teeth!

Will My Insurance Cover Crowns and Bridges?

It depends on your insurance, but most plans will provide at least partial coverage for dental crowns and bridges, making these restorations popular choices. If you still need assistance fitting crowns or a bridge into your budget, let us know so that we can discuss available financing options.

How Do I Care for My Restorations?

For the most part, you can care for bridges and crowns the same way you would care for your own natural teeth – twice-daily brushing, once-daily flossing, and regular visits to our Cypress dental office for professional cleanings and examinations.

Bridges may require a little extra effort to floss them properly, and Dr. Devani can discuss this with you to show you the proper technique and tools to use to prevent periodontal disease.
